We had almost a year with my dad from diagnosis until he passed away. I remember the conversation with him about his diagnosis of ALS and the only thought I had was about the road ahead for him and our family. This disease, with no cure, seemed only like an impossible losing battle. However, in times of devastation there is also light. CCALS was a source of light and hope for us. Ron became an amazing friend to my dad and our family. His organization provided a source of information, support and equipment to help my dad as the disease progressed.
One of our family’s favorite memories - made possible by CCAL S - was letting us borrow a “beach wheelchair” and we were able to get my dad to the beach and in the ocean one last time.
This will be my second year running this race in memory of my dad. It’s not an easy race and the weather is usually too hot, but running for me is where I find strength and I know that he will be with me as I complete this race one more time.
He is a man that will forever inspire me us to run any distance and continue to raise awareness and funding until we find a cure.
