Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the 2026 Falmouth Road Race to support Compassionate Care ALS. My dad, Adam Rand, was diagnosed with ALS in the spring of 2021. The diagnosis came after months of doctor's appointments, infusions, tests, physical therapy, and surgery. The medical process of elimination slowly chipped away at any sense of hope I had that my dad would get better. Over the next four years, I watched as ALS took away the things I loved most about my dad: the sound of his voice, his laugh, his active determination, and his overall excitement to be alive. My dad put up the fight of his life in the face of overwhelming tragedy. The years he lived with ALS were a true testament to his strength- not just physical, but emotional, mental, and deeply human. He carried the weight of his illness with courage and remained fully himself- never letting ALS become the story of who he was. I felt overwhelmed by fear of the future, struggling to make sense of what life would be like without my dad in it. My dad reminded me, "You are way stronger than you think." I told him he was too, and he replied, "Sometimes you don't have a choice." I will never forget these words. They embodied everything he was and will always be to me- quiet strength and an unwavering will to carry on, even when things were unimaginably hard. I don’t think I’ll ever feel grateful for ALS. But I am grateful for what it taught me- for the perspective it gave me. It taught me to see time as precious, to be present in every conversation, but to enjoy the quiet moments too. On April 22, 2025, my dad’s fight with ALS came to an end. His strength lives on in the way I move through the world now- with a deeper appreciation for love, time, and resilience. I look forward to run this race in support of an organization that means so much to me and my family. Funds raised from Falmouth Road Race allow Compassionate Care ALS to provide direct services and durable goods to ALS patients, their families, and their caregivers. Please give generously and assist us in making a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS.
