Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the 2025 Falmouth Road Race to support Compassionate Care ALS! I am excited to run this race’s seven miles in support of an organization that I've seen do so much firsthand. Funds raised from Falmouth Road Race allow Compassionate Care ALS to provide direct services and durable goods to ALS patients, their families, and their caregivers. Please give generously and assist us in making a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS! Why ALS: After returning home from a 40th birthday trip with my wife and daughter last year, we learned some pretty tough news. My father, Captain John D. Dooley, had held out hope that his recent mobility issues might be solved through surgery or some other treatment, but while we were away he'd officially been diagnosed with ALS. As one usually does around a big birthday, I'd spent most of the previous week looking at life at 40 and all it's changes, but I had no idea how many more changes I was about to see in my dad's life. Why Falmouth Road Race: Over the past several years my father had adapted to his mobility challenges in the usual way: using hand rails more often, walking with a cane and he even started exercising more by taking daily walks with my with sister. In fact, he ultimately completed his first ever Falmouth Road Race via the At-Home Edition in 2020! My daughter cheered him on from atop my shoulders as he crossed the "finish line" at the end of our driveway. It was quite the accomplishment. But ALS has been a challenge like no other. Why CC ALS: After years of living on the West Coast, my wife and daughter and I made our way back to Massachusetts just around the time my dad's mobility started to worsen. I was glad I was much closer now to help make things easier on my parents in navigating this difficult journey, but I was stunned to see how ALS affects literally every single aspect of both of their lives. Thinking about these past years with all its challenges and changes, it's hard to imagine how much more difficult adapting to this new normal would be without the unending support, guidance, and generosity that CCALS has shown our family. So many kind and caring people who were strangers just moments ago have literally come into our homes and into our lives to assist and advise my mother, my father, and even me in taking each new step and tackling each new challenge. I am proud to run in honor of my dad, Captain John D. Dooley, and in support of Compassionate Care ALS!
