Raised $5,223.80 of $4,000 Goal
Dear Friends and Family,
This August, I will be running my third Falmouth Road Race as a member of Team Mike, in memory of Mike Cunningham.
I’m honored to run alongside 49 incredible teammates (including Mike’s wife, Cheryl, and his children, Dylan and Emma) to raise critical funds for Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS). Each of us carries a piece of Mike’s spirit with us, and a shared commitment to continue the mission he so bravely led.
It has now been over a year since Mike passed away from ALS, and the loss is still deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. I am sincerely honored to be a part of the Team Mike community, continuing the fundraising and awareness efforts Mike began almost immediately after his diagnosis in June 2023.
ALS is a devastating disease. With no cure and limited treatment options, it gradually takes away physical function while leaving the mind fully intact. The cost of care for someone living with ALS exceeds $250,000 per year, yet access to the comprehensive, quality care needed remains out of reach for far too many families.
Watching Mike and his family navigate this journey was nothing short of profound. In my 56 years, I have never witnessed such intentional living or such pure, unwavering love. Mike showed all of us how he wanted to be supported - with strength, clarity, and grace - both during his life and after.
It’s impossible to fully capture the impact CCALS had on Mike and his family. They provided not only emotional and spiritual support, but also practical guidance, essential equipment, and a clear roadmap through every stage of the disease. The Cunningham family never had to ask, “What’s next?” CCALS was already there, anticipating their needs and ensuring they were prepared. And incredibly, all of this was provided free of charge.
One of my most cherished memories of Mike is from Falmouth Road Race weekend in 2024. After picking up our bibs, we gathered at The Flying Bridge for lunch, laughing, reminiscing, enjoying margaritas, and their famous onion rings. Mike’s smile was brighter than the summer sun that day. That’s the Mike I carry with me. (The day is captured in my profile picture)
This August, every mile I run is for him. For his family. And for the countless others who need the care and compassion that CCALS provides.
I’m asking for your support. Whether through a donation (of any size), sharing this message, or simply keeping Team Mike in your thoughts. Your generosity helps ensure that no family faces ALS alone and that access to care is not determined by circumstance.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. It truly means more than I can express.
With gratitude and love,
Susan
